Support SB 483 for workplace violence prevention

AFT Healthcare-Maryland President Debra Perry submitted testimony in favor of Senate Bill 483 February 20th. That bill proposes additional protections for workers in healthcare facilities. Perry’s testimony documented numerous incidents of violence that had befallen healthcare workers in state facilities and requested that legislators pass the bill SB 483.

The bill calls for the creation of a committee to study workplace violence prevention measures and the establishment of specific procedures that greatly reduce the opportunities for a violent incident to occur in state healthcare facilities.

North Branch Staff - Angel Fund can help our students in need.

North Branch Staff do you know of a student in need?  Some staff at school in conjunction with the North Branch Area Education Foundation have set up an "Angel Fund" to supply students with items necessary to make their school experience a success.  Any staff member is eligible to refer students and in order to make this program as beneficial as possible, we need you to refer any students in the school district, regardless of age, if you think they would benefit..  The details of the program and the referral form are in the attached documents.

Town Hall meeting features AFT and LFT presidents

More than 100 Louisiana Federation of Teachers members from New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, East Baton Rouge and other Louisiana cities and parishes turned out for an AFT town hall meeting at a downtown New Orleans hotel on Feb. 12. The town hall gave the members, as well as parents, community activists and others, an opportunity to hear from AFT President Randi Weingarten and Steve Monaghan, president of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers, and to provide feedback on the Reclaiming the Promise program.
