Facing constant cuts to staff and resources. But still, South Street rises It’s time to reclaim the promise of public education—to fulfill our collective moral obligation to help all children succeed.

MCEA Convention 2015

The Maryland Classified Employees Association held its Annual Convention in Ocean City, Maryland located at the Holiday Inn Ocean Front from October 12, 2015 through October 14, 2015. Hundreds of Delegates were greeted by their union brothers and sisters at registration who presented them with gift bags that were created by President Linda Day and her committee members. This year’s convention celebrated 80 years of our union’s untiring efforts in improving the quality of life for State and County employees.

From the Desk of the President - Deb Peterson - November - December: Fall 2015 RC 43 Conference Report

This year’s NYSUT RC 43 Annual Conference was attended by delegates, representatives, guests and friends from NYSUT, a Union of Professionals; RC 43; TRIF Units;  AFT; NYSTRS; ARA/FLARA; FEA-R; NEA-R; and UFT.  We were thrilled and honored to have Karen Magee, NYSUT, A Union of Professionals President as our Keynote Speaker. Karen appreciated the opportunity to attend these meetings as she “likes to keep in touch with the membership.”

NYSUT is holding a Retiree Conference for Councils 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 on November 19th at the Watermill Restaurant in Smithtown.

Reading Across the World

Monday, October 19th, over 1200 Calcasieu elementary students participated in a reading contest to break a Guinness World record. Children from 60 countries around the world were read to or read on their own the same book, The Growing Table. The Calcasieu Federation of Teachers and Support Personnel donated the books to the five campuses that participated. This contest was established by Points of Light, an organization promoting literacy around the world.
