In a post-Janus world it has become more important than ever to make sure public employees know their rights when it comes to unions. The Maryland Professional Employees Council hosted a “Lunch & Learn” for members, new hires, and non-members alike.
Summer is a busy time for the locals of AFT-Maryland. Beyond their duties as members and officers of public sector labor unions, many volunteer in the community for a number of worthwhile causes. The 2018 Maryland Walk With the Stars & Move-a-thon for sickle cell awareness and research was one of those causes AFT-Maryland showed up for.
AFT-Maryland staff joined with the Baltimore Teachers Union (BTU) for their annual back to school event. This year, the event was done in conjunction with Church of the Holy Trinity and the West Baltimore Community. There were a number of activities for young and old alike.
The Tentative Agreement between CUB and Baltimore City Public Schools System was ratified unanimously on August 14th. The next step is for the agreement to be approved by the Board of School Commissioners. Stay tuned!
Members of the Maryland Classified Employees Association held a rally at their Woodlawn headquarters requesting lawmakers call a special session to [reconsider moving the retiree’s prescription drug plan to the Medicare Part D program next year.] Union leadership said the switch is going to be cost-prohibitive for many retirees living on fixed incomes.
City Union of Baltimore President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson met with Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby to discuss protections for members of the City Union of Baltimore. The issue at hand in this meeting was protection for Traffic Enforcement Officers (TEOs) and crossing guards.
