Recent events honoring our Instructors:

Gary “Buz” Hermes was highlighted in the Feb 17 issues of the Press Democrat for his work in the LGBT community. He teaches several classes to this population.

Denise Beeson, Instructor in the Genealogy Program was guest speaker at the recent Family History Conference sponsored by the Church of Latter-Day Saints. SRJC offer classes at the Family History Center on Peterson Lane. Over 600 hundred interested “genealogist” attended. Speakers from Ancestry.com and Family Search.org were the Keynote Speakers.

Santa Rosa Junior College Federation of Teachers, Local 1946 will be awarded a plaque at this year's CFT convention in Los Angeles in recognition of its 50th Anniversary as an AFT local. The awards will be given out during the convention program in the main hall on Friday, March 22. Denise Beeson, President and Terry Elverum, Representative will receive the award on behalf of Local 1946.

 

Special Elections: Dems Keep Majority

Five Special elections were held Feb. 26 to fill three Senate and two House vacancies created when incumbent lawmakers resigned to accept positions in Gov. Lamont's administration.

Escalate, Escalate, ESCALATE!

It’s time to escalate! Legislators are hammering away at policy and making amazing progress on a slew of great bills. What they haven’t been focused on is funding our colleges and finding new revenue. This process is nothing new. In budget years, they work through policy first, having small conversations on the budget, up until policy cutoffs are all completed. We knew this would happen and we anticipated how those conversations would go, but frankly, we expected more support from the people we helped put into office.

Town Hall on Public Education Coming to You!

Louisiana Federation of Teachers and School Employees (LFT) has joined with Louisiana Association of Educators (LEA), Louisiana Association of Principals (LAP), Louisiana Association of Superintendents (LASS), Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association (LRTA) to host a series of town halls all accross the point. The new partnership is known as the Louisiana Public School Coalition.
